The Standard Steam Locomotive Company Limited has announced that it has placed an order for some of the components for the locomotive.
Work has continued in Sheffield at CTL Seal despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The order has been placed with South Devon Railway Engineering and South African firm, Nalendi Ringrollers. This new order is for the front bogie wheel tyres and axles.
An appeal was launched in December 2020 to raise £22,000 to complete the final section of work on the front bogie. This work will finish the construction of the suspension system and includes the spring cradle plates, spring brackets, leaf springs and completion of the remaining axle.
Over half of the appeal target has now been raised since its launch.
Geoff Turner, Engineering Director of THE ‘CLAN’ PROJECT, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to place our order for the front bogie wheel tyres and axles. Following a very useful meeting with South Devon Railway Engineering last year, their expert advice gave us confidence in Nalendi Ringrollers as a supplier.”
“We made great progress building ‘HENGIST’ last year despite the challenges posted by COVID-19, and we’re looking to continue this in 2021. We appreciate this is a difficult time, but if you are keen to see a ‘Clan’ in action again and can spare a small amount for a donation, it would be much appreciated.”
