Work continues on the boiler for the NCC Boiler Project is continuing as time permits. The latest contribution is the chimney from steam locomotive NCC tank engine No. 6.

Who donated it?

The chimney has been donated by RPSI member Evan Connolly from Coleraine, who acquired the chimney when the loco was being broken up after retiring from work on the M2 motorway spoil scheme.

For 50 years, the chimney has been a garden ornament and a disposal point for garden rubbish.

The NCC Class WT is a class of 2-6-4T steam locomotive. They were built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway for service in Northern . 18 Class WT locomotives were built between 1946 and 1950. Like the Fairburn 2-6-4T locomotives which were built at the same time, they had a hopper bunker and the absence of plating ahead of the cylinders. They are based on the LMS Fowler 2-6-4T by Sir Henry Fowler.

Hopefully one day the chimney can see smoke again!

  1. The whole project is a stupid waste of money. Loco 4 is preserved in full working order and frequently operational on the main line.

Resources should be put into maintaining existing locos and rolling stock.
