Network Rail has announced that a popular local footpath near Forden, Powys, South Wales has reopened.

The Office of Rail and Road issued a safety notice back in 2016 which meant that the crossing and footpath have been closed since then until safety works were carried out at nearby Fron .

Signalling equipment on the railway line has been relocated.

The relocation of the equipment means that the crossing is safer and more accessible, as the trains no longer stop on the crossing.

Users of the crossing are reminded to observe the signs telling them to stop, look and listen, and recently released images of level crossing misuse in South Wales.

Phil Cuddihy, Project Manager at , commented: “We know that this footpath is very popular with local residents and visitors to the area, so we’re delighted we’ve been able to support its reopening.

I’d like to thank Powys County Council, and the local community, for bearing with us while we worked to make the level crossing safer.”

Cllr Aled Davies, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Countryside Services said: “I am delighted that these improvements have now been completed and thank you to Network Rail for providing such a great service.

The footpath and level crossing are now available for public use once again, and walkers are free to use the area safely.”

  1. Since when has Forden been in South Wales?

Forden is a village near Welshpool in Powys, Wales, formerly in the historic county of Montgomeryshire (north Mid Wales).

  2. Most pedestrian level crossings have closed and replaced by foot tunnels and footbridges to make it lot safer to cross over and under the railway tracks.
