Work has been progressing on the steam locomotive, Andrew Barclay, No. 2352, including cleaning up the existing paintwork.

Andrew Barclay 2352 is based at the Tanat Valley Railway in Shropshire.

Originally new paint was going to be applied to the engine, but the paint didn’t turn up for the day allocated for painting.

Instead, it was decided to clean up the paint already worn by the locomotive on the left-hand side. Once cleaned, the paint showed up quite nicely considering the amount of time 2352 has spent stored outside.

The left-hand side was chosen as it’s visible to the public in the carpark, making the engine more presentable for them.

After the externals had been cleaned up, revealing green tanks, cylinders and cab with blue wheels, attention was turned to the inside of the water tank. Rust inside the tank has started to be removed, stopping further damage. Once removed, work can then begin repairing the tank.

The cab will also receive a full clean up soon. When completed, it can be examined to see if any work is required. The cylinders will be undergoing reboring in March.
