Safety Concerns Ground London Overground 378 Trains

London Overground has had to withdraw their entire fleet of Class 378 trains after a brake caliper was discovered on the track this week.

Workers found the brake part during a track inspection on the night of January 10th/11th near Shoreditch.

The emergency inspections meant that there was a shortage of trains. This meant services stopped from Highbury & Islington to West Croydon, Clapham Junction, Crystal Palace and New Cross Gate.

Services have thankfully now resumed, TfL will now be launching an investigation into the incident.

What did the officials say?

TfL’s director of rail and sponsored services Jonathan Fox said: “During track inspections, last night debris on the track was discovered near Shoreditch.

“Safety is our top priority and so we have carried out urgent checks on all trains before allowing them to enter service this morning.”

  1. The brake caliper must of came off which resulted in the entire Class 378 fleet to not operate. Still Bombardier have completed manufacturing the Electrostar fleets and have moved onto manufacturing the Aventra EMU fleets that they are currently manufacturing the Class 345’s for Elizabeth Line and Class 710’s that London Overground have ordered to operate on the Gospel Oak-Barking, Euston-Watford, Lea Valley and Romford-Upminster services.
