The Watkinson Trust has reached a milestone in the restoration of their LMS Black 5 No. 5025, with the Frame being lifted back onto its 3 sets of Driving Wheels.

The Black 5 is currently undergoing overhaul at the Strathspey Railway’s Aviemore Engine Shed.

The overhaul started in early 2012 with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), providing £50,000 towards the overhaul.

This overhaul will see some major work being done to the engine, namely casting and machining of new Cylinders.

Riley and Son Engineering will overhaul the Boiler, Reprofiling both Engine and Tender Wheels and building of a new Tender Tank.
