Work to improve station car parks across Southern England has reached the halfway point in South Western Railway and Network Rail‘s project to improve facilities for passengers.
Fourteen stations have been earmarked for the improvements, including Worcester Park and Witley stations in Surrey, Salisbury in Wiltshire, and Overton, Farnborough, New Milton and Hinton Admiral stations in Hants.
Since April, upgrades have been made to seven of them: Sunningdale, Effingham Junction, Weybridge, Botley, and Honiton.
The work at the car parks included resurfacing work, repainting lines, marking out safe walking routes, removing trip hazards and improvements to drainage.
Mark Killick, Network Rail Wessex route director, said: “The improvements will make travelling to and from the stations much easier, and provide passengers with a better experience. While we carry out this work, we will try to keep passenger disruption to a minimum.”
Alan Penlington, customer experience director for South Western Railway, said: “We welcome these improvements to car parks at our stations. The addition of the walkways will help to ensure customers using our services will be able to travel to and from the station safely.”
