In December, Southeastern invited us to their Slade Green Depot to have a tour of the maintenance centre.
The visit related to the completion of a multi million pound project to install a new overhead gantry, lifting cranes and a new wheel lathe system.
We start off the video by looking at the recently updated train wash area but quickly move on to the wheel lathe area.
The new wheel lathe system has been brought into use to help service Southeastern and Network Rail trains. The road used for the wheel lathe system has been extended to fit in longer trains, such as the CityBeam trains.
After watching the wheel lathe system in use on a Class 465, we moved on to the general maintenance area to have a look at the new lifting crane.
The crane has been installed to help service HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Con) units, which are found on the roof of the CityBeam trains. We even get chance to have a look on the roof of a City Beam train.
