The West Somerset Railway has announced that their Emergency Appeal now stands at £170,659.15 as of Tuesday 9th of June 2020.
Donations have been made in a number of ways to the three main groups at the WSR, with the breakdown shown below:
West Somerset Railway PLC’s Emergency Appeal – £138,093.26
- Website Donations – £51,340
- Cheque Donations – £16,003.26
- Share Purchases – £28,800
- Station Donations – £41,950
West Somerset Railway Association – £30,289
- Rail Renewal offline – £27,470
- JustGiving – £2,819
West Somerset Steam Railway Trust – £2,276.89
Total – £170,659.15
The railway, it’s staff and volunteers are very grateful for all donations. The total so far is 34% of the £500,000 target that the WSR is aiming to raise.
With passenger trains unlikely to return to the WSR until Easter 2021, the railway plan that £500,000 should cover fixed costs, along with costs to prepare the railway for when reopening is appropriate.

Cant we do a sponsored walk along it
We must do everything we can to save the railway to let ot fall into bankruptcy is unthinkable and cruel.
A few years ago we held a sponsored walk along the whole length of the line which raised a fair amount un money why cant we do that again ?

A Jolly Well Done to the Wonderfully Well-Preserved West Somerset Railway so far on their thankfully ongoing appeal to helpfully combat/fight back Covid-19.
The WSR is indeed one of the longest and well-skilled Heritage Railways within the UK Preservation Movement.
I (myself) still hope to visit and ride aboard one of it’s trains along the line ‘in-person’ someday, It’s even on my own so-called ”Eagerly-Must-Visit” Destinations List.
