The Bure Valley Railway in Norfolk has welcomed the arrival of its new battery-electric locomotive.
Weighing in at 13.6 tonnes, the locomotive arrived at Aylsham from manufacturers, Clayton Equipment Ltd.
The BVR says that this is the first all-new design and build battery electric locomotive for passengers use on a UK statutory regulated railway of any gauge.
The locomotive is British-built and will be able to haul the railway’s heaviest trains.
Commissioning and testing will now take place before the locomotive can enter service.

I’m sure I ‘ll not be the only one following the progress of this new loco with interest. It’s pleasing to see a UK manufacturer involved and wish both the Bure Valley and Clayton well with this innovative machine. If all goes to plan, I’m sure we can a think of other lines likely to benefit.
