Starting next Monday, 11th November, (GBRf) will reintroduce a new service between the Port of and the International Rail Freight Terminal in .

This will be GB Railfreight’s 17th service operating out of Felixstowe, with the company now operating a total of 54 such services nationally.

The expansion of services from Felixstowe comes after GB Railfreight added to its portfolio last July with a second daily service between the Port of Felixstowe and Widnes.

That came after GB Railfreight started its first service to Widnes in October 2023, and with the five extra trains weekly it now runs 11 trains per week between Felixstowe and Widnes.

By adding the new service between Felixstowe and the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, GB Railfreight has increased the number of rail-connected destinations from the port, providing greater flexibility for its customers.

It will also help to alleviate congestion and improving carbon emissions and road safety by removing up to 100 long distance HGV movements from the UK’s road network each day.

By July this year, GB Railfreight had already transported over 100,000 containers through the Port of Felixstowe, which prompted the company to expand its capabilities by opening a new maintenance facility at its site at Tonbridge in Kent.

“We’re delighted to be re-introducing this new service to Daventry, increasing the ever-growing volumes and market share that we move from the Port of Felixstowe. GB Railfreight piloted this service in October 2023 – however, after collaborating with an innovative and proactive customer, we are extremely confident of success and delivering a long-term connection between Felixstowe and Daventry.”

Julie Garn, Intermodal Director at GB Railfreight
