Madrid operator Metro Ligero Oeste (MLO) has signed a contract with comprehensively overhaul its Citadis tram fleet.

Alstom’s site at Pinto in Madrid will carry out the engineering, overhaul, testing, and homologation of the equipment in two phases that are planned to run until 2029

Madrid has been operating a fleet of 27 since 2007, and the contract includes their mid-life general overhaul.

This will include inspection and maintenance of the braking systems, motor and trailer bogies, circuit breakers, vehicle couplings, inter-car shock absorbers, and the emergency brake control unit.

The braking systems will be the first to be overhauled, starting next January 2025, with the remaining equipment scheduled for overhaul in 2026.
