The (SVR) reports that the DMU Group () has been working on its new unit.

The Unit arrived at SVR in Kidderminster last month, and since then, group members have been hard at work using the working-at-height equipment in the Carriage Shed.

The main focus of their work has been on surface rust on the unit’s roof and flaked paint around the windows.

During the final weekend in September, SVR arranged for access to the pit, to enable work to begin.

Group members drained the oil from all engines, gearboxes and final drives, and replaced filters.

They were relieved to find “nothing nasty” in the oil, which indicated that all mechanical components are in good condition.

SVR will move the set to its base at in Worcestershire.

Once there, mechanical work will continue, and the unit will be treated to a deep clean below the solebar.

The Severn Valley Railway recently showed off its other diesel locomotives, at its Autumn Diesel Bash over the first weekend in October.

“We are pleased to report nothing nasty has been discovered, and the vehicles are in very good condition following a period of four years sitting around in the damp.

“Since the arrival of the 101, we have seen lots of new interest within the Group, along with some new volunteers, which has been amazing. Alongside the 101, we continue to maintain and operate our Class 108, and this saw use during the recent Autumn Steam Gala.”

SVR Vice Chair, Ben Darby
