This weekend’s Mancunian trip between Manchester and Bridgnorth will raise money for Maggie’s charity.
Maggies offer emotional and practical support to those with cancer and their loved ones.
The train will run on the 28th of September, with the locomotive starting as LMS Black 5 No. 44871.
44871 will head from Manchester Piccadilly (departing at 07:26) to Kidderminster (arrival at 11:39), passing through places like Stockport (07:38), Stoke-on-Trent (08:29), Stafford (08:56), Penkridge (10:10) and Rowley Regis at 11:09.
On arrival at Kidderminster, 44871 will make way for 45596 Bahamas for the trip to Bridgnorth.
The tour is close to the hearts of those working for 45596’s owners, the Bahamas Locomotive Society, as Maggies supported long-serving volunteer, Steve Peach.
The tour runs in memory of “Peachy”, who Keith Whitmore, BLS Chairman, says was one of the ‘backbone’ of the BLS’ loco team.
45596 Bahamas will take the train from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth and return, before swapping back to 44871 at Kidderminster for the return to Manchester Victoria (not Piccadilly).
The return trip will depart Kidderminster at 16:45 and will head back to Manchester via Bescot Stadium (17:34), Stafford (18:16), Macclesfield (19:55), Stockport (20:36), Denton (20:50), Guide Bridge (21:25 – train reverses here, diesel hauled to Manchester Victoria), and Manchester Victoria at 21:54.

“‘Peachy’ was one the backbone of our loco team, and the support provided by Maggie’s brought great comfort to him and his family when needed most.  I would like to thank the Railway Touring Company for continued desire to operate the train, and also the Severn Valley Railway for their willingness to accept an unusual request for assistance at short notice.”
Keith Whitmore, BLS Chairman
