From next Saturday, 28 September and for the next 12 months, the cost of weekly, monthly, and annual season tickets and Flexipasses will be reduced by 20 per cent.

The discounts have been announced to coincide with the ending on Friday, 27 September of the Government’s trial of Off-Peak fares applicable all day.

The ending of the trial means that peak-time travel restrictions will resume from next Monday, 30 September.

With the 20 percent discount, the cost of weekly, monthly, and annual season tickets will show savings of 40 per cent compared to five or 20 Anytime Day Return tickets.

Flexipass tickets, that provide twelve journeys instead of ten for the same price, will show a saving of 32 per cent on six Anytime Day Return tickets.

The discounts will be available when using ScotRail’s mTickets app, with the advantage that buying a season ticket or Flexipass on mTicket means people only need to buy one ticket for multiple journeys.

The mTickets app allows tickets to be purchased at home or on the way to the station and it will become available on their mobile device.

With the ending of the Scottish Off-Peak fares trial, Super Off-Peak Day Return tickets will be available again from next Monday, 30 September. These offer great value, are available on selected routes, and are ideal for anyone travelling at the quietest times of the day.

“My Ministerial colleagues and I understand the end of this pilot will be disappointing for many rail users, particularly those who cannot choose when they travel to and from work. The 12-month discount on all ScotRail season tickets – coupled with the significant savings to be made using Flexipass – is aimed at offering value savings for those very passengers.

Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Transport

“The peak fares trial may be coming to an end, but we are introducing new ways for customers to lock in great value on their regular peak-time train travel.

Claire Dickie, ScotRail Commercial Director
