New analysis has shown that 12,750 new jobs are expected to become available thanks to the Midlands Rail Hub project.

The Rail Hub is the region’s biggest rail improvement scheme and will serve more than 50 stations, covering 7 million.

Work is expected to run from 2025 until 2033 and will see the building of two ‘chords’ as well as further engineering interventions throughout the region.

The majority of roles predicted for the project are skilled occupations in engineering or project management.

However, more than 300 apprentices are expected to be recruited during the programme.

Moving on to the economy, it is expected the project could generate an additional £240m throughout the supply chain and a further £45m in social value benefits.

Last year, the Government committed to delivering the Midlands Rail Hub in full and an additional £123m was allocated to the project in February 2024.

“Our rail services are hugely overcrowded and in order to get more people on the network we need to provide more trains for them.

“The Midlands Rail Hub will better connect Birmingham and the West Midlands to Bristol, Cardiff, Leicester, Derby and Nottingham with more frequent and reliable services.

“But it’s also creating thousands of jobs and apprenticeships through the design and construction phase and beyond – investing in our transport network means investing in the people of our region.”
