New research by TransPennine Express has found that nearly half (49%) of drivers are seriously worried about the price rise of petrol, insurance and tax.
38% of people say that if the costs continue to rise, they will be forced to stop driving – with 5% of drivers (around 2 million drivers) saying they have already stopped driving due to rising costs.
The research also found that confidence in Britain’s railways is improving, with Brits considering making the switch to rail travel permanently if costs continue to rise.
Car insurance has risen by £348 on average this year, but TPE says that they have tickets to suite everyone, whether it be for work or leisure.
“We could be on the precipice of a huge transformation in the way we travel according to our latest research. Car running costs are increasing year on year, faster than the rate of inflation and they’re that high that it’s forcing them off the road.”

With Sunak sabotaging HS2 and condemning intercity services between north and south to lower capacity for decades to come and LNER already hiking up fares with the withdrawal of their off-peak tickets, unless the new government finds some serious money to invest in extra capacity we are going to see more and more people priced off train travel.
