Some information on 80072
Built at Brighton Works, No 80072 was built in 1952. After running-in turns, the locomotive moved to Plaistow. 80072 worked the suburban services from Fenchurch Street over the London, Tilbury, and Southend lines. Before being withdrawn from service, The locomotive had a short stay at Tyseley in 1965. In January 1966, the locomotive was moved to Barry for scrap. It was rescued in 1988, where they started the restoration at Swindon.
A group of members later purchased the locomotive in 1991 where it was moved to the Llangollen Railway and a full restoration was completed. Taking 18 years to complete. 80072 entered preservation services in 2009 and has been a regular sight on the Llangollen Railway.
We enjoyed seeing 80072 at the Llangollen Railway when we visited, and it is nice to see it visiting somewhere new 🙂
