Merseyrail, in collaboration with the Branch Line Society, has announced that a special charter named ‘The Wirral Swan Song’ will be running this September.
This event marks a splendid occasion to commemorate the Class 507 EMU, which, after over 45 years of dedicated service, is set to depart the network for the final time.
This trip will feature the Stock Interchange Line and both EMU depots, accompanied by Branch Line Society’s renowned foray of selecting and travelling rare tracks, sidings, and crossovers.
Watch out for the unusual bidirectional running as well. Passengers can enjoy all this while they sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic views across the Wirral Lines.
Stops will be provided at stations to use the facilities, and a stopover at New Brighton has been worked into the schedule so passengers can enjoy lunch.
Passengers will have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs, including window decals. Additionally, a charity raffle will offer the chance to win some wonderful prizes.
Two 507 class EMUs are scheduled to operate this special charter, which is subject to availability.
The money raised from this trip will go to the many charities that Merseyrail supports. These include:
Centre 56 Located in the heart of North Liverpool, this domestic abuse charity offers childcare, information, and support for families and children who have suffered from, or are at risk of, domestic abuse or crisis situations.
Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, rescues and re-homes animals in the Merseyside area. Each animal is neutered, micro-chipped, and treated for fleas and worms before being re-homed.
Blackburne House This charity supports the development of local women, often vulnerable, with a primary focus on education. It empowers women to learn and thrive within a secure environment.
Parkinson’s Wirral Provides local friendship and support to individuals with Parkinson’s, as well as their families and caregivers.
For car travellers, the Council-operated Pay & Display car park at Hooton can hold 418 vehicles and offers an all-day rate of £1 as advertised online.
