The National Lottery Heritage Trust has awarded a grant worth £151,200 to The 2874 Trust to develop engineering skills.
Funding will allow volunteers to develop their existing skills as well as other projects to teach and develop the skills required for boiler restoration.
A programme of events will showcase the work of the volunteers with the aim of encouraging new volunteers to come forward.
The 2874 Trust was set up as a charity to promote the training and development of heritage mechanical engineering using steam locomotive No. 2874 as a learning platform.
The 2874 Trust also says that thanks to this expertise that will be gained from the grant, the whole sector will be enhanced.
“We are thrilled to have received this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players we will help ensure the skills necessary to keep historic steam locomotives working are preserved so that future generations can enjoy the sight and sound of our industrial heritage”
David Foster, Chairman of The 2874 Trust
