LMS Black 5 No. 44932 is set to visit the Severn Valley Railway for their Autumn Steam Gala this September.
Taking place between the 19th and 22nd September, the gala will also see Saddle Tank No. 51456 visit from the East Lancashire Railway / Lancashire and Yorkshire Trust.
44932 visits thanks to West Coast Railways and is usually based at Carnforth Depot in Lancashire.
44932 and 51456 join 45596 Bahamas and 2999 Lady of Legend and the SVR home fleet for the gala.
‘We’re delighted at securing the appearances of both these locomotives. For Black Five 44932 this is going to be an extremely rare appearance at a heritage line, and it’s going to be a great honour to host the 143-year-old saddle tank, as one of the older locomotives still working.’
Duncan Ballard, the SVR’s head of steam engineering

The Black 5 encapsulates everything that is wonderful about steam. The great ubiquitous workhorse. So many journeys behind a Black 5 when younger. Fantastic to know it’s coming and will definitely be there. Well done SVR.
Fantastic line up! Love LMS engines.
With WCR having no work for 44932 presently it’s no surprise, yet strangely they should have enough money from Jacobites to finance the fitting of CDL to their coaches. Atleast 44932 is going to get a trip out of Carnforth again though, deffinately looking forward to seeing it at the SVR ASG. Wonder though if they might try hiring more locos out to other heritage lines.
