Rail operator ScotRail has announced that its season tickets and multi-journey Flexipass can now be purchased, stored and used on the ScotRail app.
This means that passengers can buy these tickets instantly from any location, thereby removing the need to go to a station ticket office.
As well as providing greater convenience, the electronic format also reduces printing of paper tickets and smartcards, making it a more environmentally friendly option.
Although there are benefits for both customers and the environment, the increasing shift to digital tickets across the UK rail network has led to a decline in use of the iconic ‘magstripe’ tickets.
In order to be able to use their season ticket or Flexipass on their phone, customers need to buy the pass through the app and select ‘mobile’ for the delivery method.
They then need to activate the barcode and can scan the ticket at the gateline or present it to on-board staff as required.
Season ticket holders will also be able to show their photocard on the app, while Flexipass users will be able to view how many journeys they have left on the app and when they need to use the journeys by.
Flexipass tickets allow ScotRail users to make either 10 single or 5 return journeys on the same route within 60 days at a 15% discount compared to buying 5 Standard Anytime returns.
The standardised 15% discount across the network has been in place since August 2021, when ScotRail implemented it in order to encourage more people to take the train again post-Covid.
This is another positive step forward for our customers, and offers additional opportunities for them to join us in going digital, and supporting greener travel. Â
