Over the forthcoming August Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday, 24th to Monday, 26th August the Wensleydale Railway based at Leeming Bar in North Yorkshire will hold its first industrial diesel locomotives event.
A special timetable will be in operation throughout the weekend with six of the railway’s locomotives in operation hauling passenger services between Leeming Bar and Leyburn and passenger and freight demonstration trains between Leeming Bar and Scruton.
The planned locomotive lineup is:
- Class 03 No. 03144, ex-Ministry of Defence.
- Class 14 No. D9523, ex-British Steel Corby.
- Class 14 No. D9513 ex-National Coal Board (NCB) Ashington
- WL4 ex-Tyne & Wear works locomotive, which also worked on the Channel Tunnel.
- Sentinel 0-6-0 ex-Hope Cement Works in Derbyshire
- Class 37 No. 37250, running in its new EWS livery.
During the weekend, there will be double-headed class 14s, brake van rides to Scruton, shunting for locomotive changes, and tours of the engine shed.
Shuttle services between Leeming Bar and Scruton will be Top & Tailed with a locomotive at each end.
Refreshments will be available in the MK.3 Buffet at Leeming Bar, with hot bacon and sausage rolls, hot and cold drinks, snacks, and sandwiches.
At Leyburn, Arthurs Teashop be open for the sale of hot and cold drinks, snacks and confectionery and Mandy’s world famous cakes. Also at Leyburn, the shop will have a wide range of railway books, memorabilia, and gifts on sale.
Tickets can be purchased in advance online at £25 for an Adult Day Rover and £1 for a child Day Rover, and can be purchased on the day at Leeming, Bedale ,and Leyburn.
Shark brake van rides are also available for holders of Adult Day Rover at a cost of £5, but these can only be purchased on the day.
There will be limited parking available at Leeming Bar station, but an overflow carpark is only 5 minutes walk away.
