TransPennine Express (TPE) has launched its own, bespoke beer.
The operator has worked with brewery Northern Monk, which is based in Leeds, to produce ‘Pennine Pale’.
TPE describes the beer as “crisp and refreshing”, and “craft brewed with northern pride and bursting with hoppy citrus fruit flavours”.
Pennine Pale is a 4.1% IPA, created for passengers travelling on TPE services.
The beer comes in a grey and purple can, with a design featuring destinations along TPE’s network from Liverpool to York.
The can carries a QR code, which takes the reader to information about the partnership and more pictures of TPE destinations across Scotland and the North of England.
Pennine Pale is available after 11am in First-Class, and forms part of TPE’s two First-Class menus: West Coast Kitchen and Express Plus.
Standard-class passengers can buy Northern Monk’s Faith hazy pale ale through the Express Café menu.
TPE’s new summer menu is the first change to food and beverage options since the operator launched its West Coast Kitchen earlier this year.
Hot food was first served on TransPennine Express trains in 2022, with morning services offering a choice of bacon and sausage ciabatta sandwiches, sausage rolls and hot porridge.
More information about TPE’s catering offerings on-board is available here.
“We are really proud to partner with Leeds-based brewery Northern Monk to offer a refreshing beer that has been created just for our customers, that is inspired by the destinations we serve across the North of England and Scotland.
“We have worked hard to improve our catering offering, particularly in First Class, to bring our customers an experience in line with what they expect and deserve when travelling on a premium service.”
Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TransPennine Express
“We’re delighted that TPE passengers will be able to enjoy our Pennine Pale while on their journeys across the North and Scotland. We’ve worked closely with TPE to get the beer on track, and we think people will really enjoy it.”
Sophie Ballard, National Sales Manager at Northern Monk
