Attendees at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in August can expect up to three extra daily services from TransPennine Express (TPE). 

The extra trains will service the Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Central, and the Edinburgh Waverley to Newcastle routes.

TransPennine Express will add the additional services from Saturday 3rd of August until Friday 30th of August to its existing timetable to support those returning from a show, whether it be live music, comedy, or dance. 

Between Monday and Friday, a special TransPennine service will run from Edinburgh Waverley at 9.56pm to Glasgow Central, calling at Haymarket.

Another will leave Edinburgh Waverley at 11pm, calling at East Linton, Dunbar, Reston, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnmouth and Morpeth, before arriving in Newcastle at 12:59am. 

In the opposite direction, another additional train will leave Newcastle at 8:01pm, stopping at Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Reston, Dunbar and East Linton before arriving at Edinburgh Waverley at 10.01pm. 

On Saturdays, there will be an extra Glasgow Central service leaving Edinburgh Waverley at 7.56pm, making a stop at Haymarket. And on Sundays, a train following the same route will leave Edinburgh Waverley at 9.42pm.  

This year, the Scottish capital is expecting over two million people to make their way to the festival, with thousands of shows taking place at about 250 venues in and around the city. Extra services are therefore welcome, to help meet the higher-than-usual demand.  

Festival goers who have not yet purchased their rail tickets to or from Edinburgh in August can do so via the TransPennine website: tpexpress.co.uk 

TransPennine Express strongly recommends that customers plan ahead, expect services to be very busy, and allow extra time for journeys. Where possible, they also suggest passengers might avoid travelling during the busiest times.
