Laura Strangeway has been appointed as full time CEO of the .

Chris Price resigned last September and Laura has been performing the role of Acting CEO ever since.

Laura has, since 2015, been working on a rebrand for the railway as well as TV projects and navigating the railway through the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Chris Gee and Jerry Smith will now work with Laura to develop short and medium term priorities.

“We followed a rigorous and structured process that sought out talent from across a wide range of industries, including heritage railways. In the end it came down to two and I am delighted that Laura is the successful candidate and was so clearly the best person for the job. Laura gave us a compelling view of the future of our railway and I for one am looking forward to working with her on that.”

Jerry Swift, Trust Board Chair

“As the newly appointed CEO of the Moors Railway, it’s an honour to lead our cherished heritage railway into a new era. Our railway not only preserves the rich history of steam, but also plays a vital role in connecting our local communities. I am committed to ensuring that we continue to deliver magical experiences for our visitors whilst bringing history to life. My hope is to continue working with the railway’s resilient management team, staff and wonderful volunteers to keep the spirit of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway alive for generations to come.”

  1. I won’t hold my hopes that high in a Labour Govt !
They’ve cancelled our new station in Haxby already yet can send 11 billion abroad for so called green projects that will do nothing

  2. All the usual rhetoric as we have come to expect from managers and CEO’s. Let’s see good results and in a couple years time not ‘had to leave the contract early by mutual agreement’ when it all goes pear-shaped.
Sorry and all that (Not sorry)

  3. It’s certainly a wonderful railway, unique in having a long gradient @ 1in49, and a stretch of NR speed limit: congratulations on your appointment.
This is a time for a new Govt looking to help fund line extensions to improve connectivity off road and boost local tourism: though expensive Malton next stop?
Do write to Sir Kier or his chancellor Rachel Reeves!!

  4. Well done Laura, perhaps you should invite Keir Starmer down, a new CEO, a new prime minister! A new chapter for the railway and the country.
