The TripAdvisor’s Travellers Choice Award for 2024 has been granted to the East Lancashire Railway.
The award is given out yearly to travellers favoured things to do, places to stay and eat based over 12 months.
This award means that millions of travellers have placed the East Lancashire Railway in the top 10% worldwide.
The line runs from Rawtenstall to Heywood, and couldn’t be more pleased with this award.
This is further good news for the railway after their recent successful diesel gala in June.

I’m sure no one will lose any sleep over your visit Josh
I think they should sell all the steam locos and reinvest in Diesel locos as they bring in the revenue
If they did that, then people like me, who grew up with steam and for me, worked on steam, would stop going.
I understood that 11305 was a Horwich works shunter
Trackside is a great cask ale pub.
I’m still really upset that they’ve got hold of the L&YR Class 5. That’s one of my favourite York exhibits. It once worked at Normanton where I grew up, and it’s such a lovely loco. Just another thing given away to make the NRM more empty.
Don’t know if I’ll ever visit the East Lancashire Railway. I might go to see the Crab, but other than that I wouldn’t be interested.
Josh,
You’re missing a treat. A fabulous heritage railway with some great examples of LYR architecture, signalboxes, wagons and locomotives. Also, friendly staff, bars at two of the stations and travel trough lovely countryside once you have left Bury.
