Direct Rail Services have put up for sale a range of locomotive nameplates, allowing you to get your hands on railwayana in their original condition.
Bids can be sent in to [email protected], with bids open until Friday 5th July at 2pm.
However, DRS will accept in person bids at their Carlisle Open Day on the 6th July between 10 am and 2 pm.
Winning bids will be announced between 3 and 4 pm on the 6th July.
Nameplates will need to be collected from Monday 15th July from either Crewe Depot or Carlisle Kingmoor. All money raised will go towards various charities across the UK.
The nameplates that are available are Class 37s No. 37401 ‘Mary Queen of Scots’, 37407 ‘Blackpool Tower’, 37422 ‘Victorious’, 37423 ‘Spirit of the Lakes’, 37425 ‘Concrete Bob’, 37425 ‘Robert McAlpine’, Class 66 No. 66302 ‘Endeavour’ and Class 68s No. 68019 ‘Brutus’, 68020 ‘Reliance’, 68021 ‘Tireles’, 68022 ‘Resolution’, 68023 ‘Achilles’, 68025 ‘Superb’, 68026 ‘Enterprise’, 68027 ‘Splendid’, 68029 ‘Courageous’ and 68032 ‘Destroyer’.

I wonder exactly how much they will be selling for!!??🤔🤔 All the same they should still leave them in the loco’s for futher appreciation or whoever is buying them to leave the decision up to them whether or not to keep them on.
The nameplates should have stayed on the locos when they were sold. Just desecration of railway heritage

As the intellectual property of the owner, many of which have been bought and fitted by DRS, in the same way as most if not all loco’s sold from BR and other post privatisation companies have had their nameplates removed and donated/sold, auctioning them off for charity, is an entirely wholesome thing to do. Should the new owners then decide to return their historic names, simply ordering fresh cast ones doesn’t pose a problem.
The 37s I assume are being scrapped but what about the 68s? They’re fairly new so I hope they’re not facing the cutter’s torch.
