Train operator Northern has issued a reminder to carers that until next Sunday, the 16th of June, they are eligible for a 25% discount on the price of Advance Purchase tickets on Northern’s train services.
Northern is making the concession to recognise that this week from Monday, 10th to Sunday, 16th June has been designated as Carers Week 2024.
The saving, available via the Discounts for Carers scheme, is delivered in partnership with Network which Northern entered a partnership with in March 2023.
Network is a company that specialises in employee discounts and benefits.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
Also eligible for the Discounts for Carers scheme are NHS workers, teachers, and employees of registered charities, who all qualify for a 25% discount on Advance Purchase tickets.
The 25% discount is available on all of the train operator’s 2,500 services each day, but tickets must be purchased in advance of travelling.
Northern’s It also has a range of other discounts available to help passengers with travel costs, such as 10,000 discount codes that it issued last month for regular travellers living in the commuter belts of Bradford and Sheffield.
There are 5.7 million unpaid carers in the UK providing essential support to friends or family members.
With their thoughts focussed on the welfare of others, it’s easy for those providing care to forget they themselves are eligible for support – in our case, a 25% discount on Advance Purchase tickets.
Carers, both paid and unpaid, do an amazing job and we’re happy to support them by offering this special discount on their journeys.
