From early June, an extra train will run in each direction each day on the Great Northern route between and .

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which operates Great Northern services, has explained that it is adding the extra train because of rising demand and comments from passengers who requested more capacity during peak hours.

“We’re constantly listening to our customers, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to respond with these extra seats, providing more choice, comfort and convenience for our passengers between Peterborough and London. We’ll continue to monitor demand and make more improvements wherever we can.”

  1. What routes will the Class 379s be used on. I take it that they will be used on London King’s Cross-Peterborough, Cambridge, Ely, King’s Lynn and Cambridge North (especially on semi-fast Peterborough, Cambridge and King’s Lynn services).

  2. Great Northern are getting the Class 379s from storage and to use them on London King’s Cross-Peterborough, Cambridge and King’s Lynn express and semi-fast services and to replace the Class 387s to Southern and hand back some of the Class 387s back to Gatwick Express and GWR.

    1. Unfortunately, neither of these additional services appears in either version of the new electronic national rail timetable!

      1. I think they should also be used on Cambridge and King’s Lynn. And Southeastern and Southern to inherit some of the Class 387s. With Great Northern keeping the Class 387/3s.
