Network Rail has announced that Rotherham Central has reopened following flooding to the railway after Storm Dennis.
Trains resumed after 16:00 following completion of repair and testing work by engineers.
The work included pumping water away from the railway and replacing damaged equipment.
Bus replacement services were running between Meadowhall and Swinton, however, a full train service has now resumed.
What did the officials say?
Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail‘s North and East Route, said:
“Storm Dennis brought heavy downpours to South Yorkshire over the weekend, which led to all the lines to and from Rotherham Central station being completely submerged by floodwater.
“Our teams have worked round the clock to clear floodwater and repair damage. All of this work is now complete, which has allowed train services to resume. We would like to thank passengers for their patience whilst this essential work was carried out.”
