Milan to Bologna train in Italy derails leaving 2 dead

Reports from this morning are reporting that a train crash involving a Milan to Salerno train, has left 2 people dead, and 27 injured.

The Milan Chronicle has reported that the train crash happened on the Milan to Bologna line and has involved two carriages coming off the tracks.

The train driver and a railway worker, who was in the cab, are reported to have been killed in the Italy train crash.

According to The Milan Chronicle, the train left Milan at 5:10 am and headed for Salerno, however, derailed at Opedaletto Lodigiano at around 5:35 am.

Around thirty people have been injured, however, these are not thought to be life-threatening at the time of writing.

Trains on the Milan – Bologna high-speed rail line are suspended, with all trains diverted on the Milan to Piacenza line, with delays of up to 60 minutes for travelling passengers.

The Chronicle also has reported that maintenance work was taking place on the line last night.

Reports are now coming in that the train was travelling at 180 mph (290 kph) when it crashed.
