The Whitrope Heritage Centre has announced that they will be welcoming two Pacer trains in 2020.
Ex-Northern Class 142‘s 142019 and 142020 have found new homes at the Waverley Route Heritage Association.
These 142s join Pacer Demonstration Unit RB004 at the centre.
142019 and 142020 have already been withdrawn from service by Northern and are currently parked in storage at Worksop.
They will be collected from Worksop in the next few weeks and will be welcomed at their new home very soon.

How does one get to the Whitrope railway please?
They must be the worse trains ever that were for commuting on but congratulations on saving them for preservation as I suspect most will be scrapped
Furthermore,
I wonder if these 2 withdrawn double-coach pacers are going to be repainted … within classic 80s’early 90’s BR liveries perhaps ? (who knows).
Also,
Surely the Whitrope Heritage Centre is planning/yet aiming to relay hence extend it’s own train track down closer to that Riccarton Junction site
(whom I believe has potential of being restored, let alone be southern terminus of what’ll be yet another popular Scottish Heritage Railway).

I always knew some of these one-time British Rail 2-coachers would have potential of entering the UK Preservation Movement.
Quite Exciting to see two of these finding new lease of life within the Scottish Borders, exactly up at non-other than Wonderful Whitrope – the one-time summit of the Waverley Route.
That’s wonderful. Whitrope Heritage Centre should be proud to have 2 Class 142 Pacers.
Why is it something to be proud of though, they aren’t very nice to be on?
I don’t understand this prejudiced view. Pacers were built to keep many services running. They have stood the test of time over more years than planned. They have excellent route availability and are economical. I like them.
