Services between and Hunmanby in Yorkshire will be disrupted next week whilst engineering teams carry out major upgrades to the railway lines.

From Saturday, 3 to Sunday, 11 February there will be no train services between Beverley in East Yorkshire and Hunmanby in North Yorkshire so that engineers can install new track and switches on six sections of the line and carry out maintenance work on level crossings in the area.

The work aims to provide passengers travelling on the Yorkshire Wolds Line with smoother and more reliable journeys.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail’s North & East route, said: “This extensive programme of upgrades will be beneficial for our passengers as they travel along the Yorkshire Wolds line. Passengers can look forward to smoother, more reliable journeys as they travel by train between Hull and Scarborough.

“We have deliberately planned to carry out this work in a longer period so that our engineers can work to deliver all the vital upgrades at once, rather than causing multiple periods of . However, we know that this work will be disruptive to passengers and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

“We would encourage all passengers to check how their journey may be affected ahead of travelling via National Rail Enquiries or their train operator. I also want to thank passengers for their patience and understanding throughout this period.”

Kerry Peters, regional director for Northern, said: “All investment in rail infrastructure is welcome and we ask for our customers’ patience and understanding while these important works are carried out. Whilst there will be short-term inconvenience, this is about long-term improvements. During this time, customers should ‘check before they travel’ to ensure they’re aware of any impact on their journeys.”
