Northern has been improving stations during 2019 and has made over 1000 improvements due to tens of millions of pounds invested in the Better Stations project.

The aims of the scheme were to invest in 40 enhanced announcement systems, 130 improved CCTV systems for security, over 600 new ticket vending machines, 300 new and improved waiting shelters and 260 new and improved seats for passengers who are waiting for their train.

The scheme is also part of a much larger plan to improve its entire network in the North of England, including investing £500 million into new trains and to refurbish and replace the existing fleet.

What did the officials say?

David Brown, Managing Director at , said:

“Two years ago we committed to making significant improvements at our stations to give our customers a better journey experience – whether that’s buying a ticket, waiting for a train, or getting information about our services.”

“With more than 1,000 improvements already completed, and many more yet to come, there is no doubt that we are delivering on that promise.”

“Our Better Stations programme is a multi-million pound scheme that is benefiting our customers and the communities in which they live as we continue to make our stations more comfortable, more user-friendly and safer than ever.”

  1. Perhaps David Brown, Managing Director at Northern should allow the Class 195 Civity’s to operate in the Northeast of England. Or maybe to order more Class 195s to be used in the Northeast.
