The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has allowed the new East Linton railway station to enter service ahead of its planned opening on 13 December.
The new station is on the East Coast Main Line and has connections to Edinburgh, Dunbar, Newcastle and other destinations. ORR has ensured that it meets standards for passengers, including verifying that its two platforms, lifts, footbridge, lighting and other electricals are safe to enter into service and are of good quality. It has worked alongside Network Rail to achieve this.
Work on the new station started nearly two years ago after a public consultation, and the project has cost fifteen million pounds. The new station will serve East Linton, a village in East Lothian, and will have a car park with 125 spaces.
Part of ORR’s role is to authorises new railway stations like East Linton. This forms part of its duty to authorise new, major, upgraded or renewed infrastructure and rolling stock, and to ensure that they are safe for railway users.
Steve Fletcher, Deputy Director of Engineering and Asset Management at ORR, said: “This new railway station is a really significant upgrade for the local community and we have been working closely with the team at Network Rail to ensure the station is completed safely and to the standard passengers deserve.
“ORR plays a vital role in enforcing common rules and standards on the nation’s railway infrastructure. We’re pleased to have played our part in the opening of this station.”

It has no soul. Just steel and concrete vandal proof structures. Can’t imagine passengers will want to spend any time there. I don’t suppose there are any on site staff or passenger facilities. Who authorised this eye sore

I bet Geoff Marshall is also looking forward to seeing the new station opened. He’s been to so many railway stations and has done so many videos of stations he’s accomplished.
Similar to Reston railway station when it first opened back in May 2022. Except that Reston is served by TransPennine Express and sometimes LNER. Whilst East Linton will mainly be served by ScotRail and TPE.

Pointless. East Linton has a population of about 1800.
How Many people live in Haddington? Closed that station decades ago more than quadrupled the population to over 10.000 residents now and still Refused to reopen the line that previously existed.

As a rail worker too this is another of the many stations in Scotland. They have CCTV, Adequate lighting and help points, with the cameras monitored 24/7, so there is no problems for anybody using the station. The CCTV is to a good quality and was recently used in a prosecution of a number of youths you attacked a passenger leaving a train. This was at a staffed station too. So no great problem. If the station was manned chances are they would lock themselves in a lockfast area and call the cops. Staff is sadly no deterrent.
Yet another unmanned station on scotlands network, are these stations really safe for vunrable people and woman travelling alone at night. Oh theres cctv whopee because that really helps. As a rail worker i detest these horrid so called stations.
There is no shelter from the weather, but seeing as East Linton is famed for its balmy Mediterranean climate all year round I don’t suppose the planners felt it necessary.
