On Tuesday 28 November, East Midlands Railway (EMR) will host an event at Derby station to help and encourage passengers who want to learn how to buy tickets digitally.

EMR’s ticketing staff will be available on the station’s concourse from 10am to 3pm, and will help passengers to download the EMR app onto their own device, set up an online account and practise buying different types of tickets.

Derby was one of the first EMR stations to introduce ‘Smart Kiosks’ two years ago.

Staff will also show passengers how barcode tickets work, including downloading and storing them in the app, printing them at home, and using them at the station’s gatelines.

EMR staff will also promote the use of the EMR Smartcard, showing how to products online and download them onto the card, and how to add a ticket to an EMR Smartcard using a ticket vending machine.

The number of people using EMR Smartcards is rising. The Smartcards allow people to store their train tickets securely in one place. Passengers simply tap their card on the reader at ticket machines, platform validators or ticket gates.

Simon Pready, Commercial Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “Using digital products is incredibly convenient. They enable customers to save time by allowing the purchase of tickets at anytime.

“They are also better for the environment since they reduce the use of paper and customers need not worry about losing or damaging their tickets.

“We would like to invite any customers interested in learning how to use digital tickets to drop in and see if it could work for them.”
