It has been announced that Southern locomotive, 825, has passed its mainline certificate tests in Yorkshire.
The tests are the final hurdle in the overhaul of the locomotive at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
These tests now mean that 825 can haul trains between Grosmont and Whitby / Battersby.
The NYMR run trains between Whitby and Grosmont during the summer, but because this stretch of railway is owned by Network Rail, special signalling equipment is used and must be tested on NYMR locos, just like other mainline locomotives such as 60103 Flying Scotsman and 60163 Tornado.
We look forward to seeing 825 on the Whitby runs next year!

I’ve just completed a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of 825 bought from a local charity shop and thought I’d Google about it. And small world my hubby’s from York. Well I never!
Well done NYMR, nice loco..had the pleasure of riding it from Chappel & Wakes Colne to March MPD for the 150 celebrations way back in 1975, in her Greene King days.
