Over the summer, Winchcombe Station was treated to a special day collaboration, which saw a team made up of 30 people from Colas Rail UK’s team, and the Steam Railway work together.

The collaboration saw the creation of a fantastic play area with tables and chairs for the local children and community to make use of while visiting the station.

The project took a sustainable approach to building the play area, using wooden sleepers from previous worksites, recycling and repurposing them, bringing a new lease of life.

Colas Rail UK‘s Signalling team is currently completing extensive work in the area, supporting Network Rail’s Signalling & Telecoms framework.

Dan Palmer, Colas Rail UK Programme Manager, Dan Palmer said

“It was a great initiative which we were delighted to be a part of and support the community we’re working in.”

“I would like to pass on my thanks to the teams within Colas Rail UK and Network Rail who attended during a particularly busy period within the Signalling & Telecommunications (S&T) Framework. A special mention to our supplier Ground Control who volunteered a day in cutting the logs to size and to my colleague, Chris Courtenay, for organising with GWSR.”

“An excellent collaboration and really pleasing to see the finished product.”

Paul Fuller, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway Track Maintenance Manager said:

“It was fantastic to welcome such an enthusiastic and passionate group of volunteers to our site at Winchcombe.”

“The end result is a play area that the children of our local community can enjoy.”
