Severn Valley Railway is kicking off 2024 in style with an early Winter Steam Gala which will take place on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of January.
The winter event will see a minimum of five steam locomotives supporting what we set to be a busy timetable of services across the weekend and will mark a number of special moments, including:
- Final appearances for 21C127 ‘Taw Valley’ in wartime black
- Final appearances for 43106 ‘The Flying Pig’ as its current boiler tickets reaches its end
- Gala debut for 2698 after overhaul
- Gala return for 7812 ‘Erlstoke Manor’ after leaving the railway in Spring this year.
The event will also see Severn Valley Railway’s home fleet increase as 2253 ‘Omaha’ remains at the railway following her appearance at the Autumn Steam Gala, which takes place later this week from the 14th to the 17th of September.
At present, the event organisers are hard at work planning services which will begin at approximately 8am and end at around 7pm and will feature a special Saturday evening service with 43106.

Lewis Maddox, Severn Valley Railway’s Visitor Engagement Manager, said:
“This is going to get 2024 off to an amazing start! There are many people with a keen interest in seeing steam no matter what the season and there can be nothing finer than the sight of a locomotive running on a crisp winter day.”
“We’ve not done anything as early in the season as this for quite some time, but we’re confident it’s going to go down very well and give people something to look forward to in the new year. It’ll be particularly significant to be saying ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’ to so many of the locos in operation at this event.”
