Rugby fans travelling to BT Murrayfield Stadium for the rugby match between Scotland and New Zealand tomorrow, Sunday, 13th November, will face additional difficulties because of limited access to Haymarket station.

After the match, people are advised to travel directly to Edinburgh Waverley to catch their return train or postpone their journey until later in the evening, which will minimise their need to queue.

The limited access to Haymarket station is caused by redevelopment of an adjacent building, which has reduced its capacity by half and prevent ScotRail from implementing its normal queuing system after the game. Also, the ramp located at the rear of the station will not be accessible and everyone travelling from Haymarket will need to use its main entrance.

Alternative travel between BT Murrayfield and Waverley station is available by Edinburgh Trams, which operate a fast and frequent service between the stadium’s entrance and St Andrew Square tram stop, which is a short walk from Edinburgh Waverley. BT Murrayfield is also served by Lothian Buses numbers 1, 3, 12, 22, 25, 26, 30, 31 and 33, which connect with Edinburgh City Centre.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: “We’re urging customers travelling to this weekend’s rugby at Murrayfield to plan ahead, and to make sure they check their entire journey before they leave for the station.

“We’re doing everything we can to minimise disruption to customers, but services are expected to be busy, and journeys may take longer than usual.

“We’d encourage customers to travel straight to Edinburgh Waverley to catch their train after the game to reduce their need to queue, or postpone their journey until later in the evening.”
