The Class 40 Preservation Society have released an update on the work going on to Class 40 No.40145.
The locomotive has now entered the HNRC workshops at Barrow Hill. This is in preparation of the locomotive being lifted from its bogies.
This will then allow the wheelsets to be removed and dispatched to the South Devon Railway for removal of the old tyres and the fitting of new ones.
It is anticipated that this work will cost in the region of £40,000, this is expected because of the transport costs of getting the wheelsets from Barrow Hill to Devon and return.
The Class 40 Preservation Society is now looking for donations to help complete the work on the locomotive, and allow the locomotive to return to the mainline, where it belongs.
