In the annual GRESB assessment, Porterbrook has secured itself a top score and has been named the Transport Sector Leader.
The result highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability, with key initiatives including the development of the UK’s first hydrogen-powered train HydroFLEX.
They have also launched their battery-diesel hybrid vehicle HybridFLEX into passenger service which majorly cuts down on CO2 emissions and reduces noise and air pollution.
GRESB assesses and benchmarks the ESG performance each year and provides insight for financial marks on sustainability topics.
Porterbrook was first in its peer group and scored a five star rating for the fourth year in a row.
Porterbrook CEO Mary Grant said: “To score 100% and be recognised as the Transport Sector Leader in the annual GRESB benchmark is a great achievement for Porterbrook. It’s an endorsement of the hard work and dedication of our team to support the railway’s journey towards net zero.
“Our shareholders, customers and industry stakeholders place high importance on sustainability, and while we are proud of what has been achieved so far, we remain focused on further improving our ESG performance across the business going forward.”
Sebastien Roussotte, CEO of GRESB, said: “GRESB Sector Leaders are the top-performing organizations leading the way to a net-zero future and pulling the industry forward. We applaud this year’s Sector Leaders for their commitment, leadership, and dedication to ESG and sustainability.”
