70000 Britannia was out yesterday (8th December 2018) on The Pennine Moors Explorer from Crewe to Burnley Manchester Road.  

The tour is The Pennine Moors Explorer which is the last railtour of 2018 to be operated by Locomotive Services (TOC) Ltd and promoted by Saphos Trains.

This year, newly returned to the mainline 70000 Britannia took charge of the tour, its second tour since returning to steam on the mainline.

70000 Britannia hauled the tour via Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western, Cherry Tree, Blackburn, and Rose Grove. Its return working worked by Copy Pit, Todmorden, Manchester Victoria, Warrington Bank Quay, Hartford, and Crewe.

Today RailAdvent filmed 70000 at Burnley Manchester Road, arriving into the terminus 25 minutes early. We also then saw the locomotive tackling the climb up Copy Pit, passing Towneley Crossing right time, beginning her return to Crewe.

About 70000 Britannia

70000 Britannia first entered passenger service in 1951. It worked the train services from London to East Anglia and later worked on the West Coast Mainline. Now owned by Icons of Steam / The Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust. The locomotive returned to the mainline in 2018 following an overhaul and repairs to mainline condition.
