ScotRail to run extra trains for Coldplay at Hampden Park

Extra trains are being run being Central and tomorrow, Tuesday, 23rd and Wednesday, 24th August to help concert-goers travelling to to watch Coldplay at their ‘Music of the Spheres’ World Tour concert.

Mount Florida is the closest station to Hampden Park. As well as the extra trains, will be adding extra carriages to other trains. The additional trains and extra carriages will apply on both days day before and after the concert.

A queuing system will be in operation at before the concert, and at Mount Florida station afterwards.

Passengers who use Neilston services are advised that on Tuesday and Wednesday trains may be much busier than normal with Coldplay fans travelling to Hampden Park.

On both days, ScotRail is requesting that concertgoers head back to Mount Florida to catch return train as soon as possible after the end of the concert and join a queues on Bolton Drive. There will be no access to the station from Battlefield Drive.

To avoid queuing on the day, passengers are encouraged to buy their return tickets to Mount Florida in advance via the mTicket system on the ScotRail app. This allows tickets to be bought from home or on the way to the station for it to be instantly available on their mobile device.

To assist customers travelling to and from the concerts, ScotRail will have staff be on hand. Passengers are advised that the carrying or consuming of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail services.

ScotRail regularly issues travel advice for events at Hampden Park, including the Scottish Cup Final, Ed Sheeran, and concerts by Calvin Harris and Primal Scream at Glasgow Green.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: “We’re looking forward to helping music lovers travel by train to see Coldplay perform at our national stadium.

“To help the event run smoothly, we’re adding extra carriages to key trains as well as more trains to and from Hampden.

“Our advice to customers is to leave extra time for travel as trains are likely to be busier than normal. Buying tickets in advance through our mTickets system will reduce your queuing time.”
