The Corris Railway Society is holding its annual Model Railway Exhibition in Machynlleth over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

After a two-year break because of Covid, the exhibition will be held in the impressive surroundings of Y Plas in Machynlleth on Saturday, August 27th and Sunday, 28th August. Y Plas is the former Welsh residence of the Marquesses of Londonderry but is now used as a community and a meetings venue.

Visitors will be able to see 11 layouts in action, ranging in scale from N to 16 mm. There will also be a static display of models, courtesy of the Mid Wales Gauge 1 Association. One of the layouts will be available for visitors to try their hand at operating a model railway.

Nostalgia will be stirred for some visitors with the sight of Trix Twin and Tri-ang Big Big trains at work, over half a century since those marques were generally available.

There will be a variety of sales stands selling books, models, and railwayana, and Kate Packham will make a welcome return with her stand selling decorative items and jewellery which she makes from recycled glass.

Of special interest will be a stand dedicated to raising funds for Corris’s new-build steam locomotive, Falcon No. 10. The railway hopes it will be in steam by 24th September, although it will not be ready for traffic, as that is the date its builder, Alan Keef Ltd., is holding a 50th Anniversary Open Day at their premises at Lea near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire.

Refreshments and light snacks will be available and the doors are open between 10.00 and 4.30 on both days. Car parking is available nearby.

Admission will be £4.00 for adults and £2.00 for children with a family ticket, covering two adults and two children available for £10.00.

As well as enjoying the exhibition, visitors will also have a chance to travel along the revived section of the Corris that runs along the Dulas Valley from the station in the village of Corris.
