Mike Kelly, of the East Lancashire Railway, has released an update on the overhaul work taking place on steam locomotive No.13065.
Mike visited the Ian Riley and Son workshops to check up on the repairs taking place. Currently, there is 5 staff working on the Crabs boiler.
An NDT survey and examination have been completed by the team working on 13065.
The work on the boiler has now also been expanded to include new front boiler tubes and a new front tube plate.
Investigations have also shown that the front tube plate radius on both the left and right-hand side have suffered from corrosion and cracking. The cracking appeared previously, but was welded back together in the past, this cracking has now appeared again,
As a result of this, more than 250 stays will need to be replaced. A new front tue plate and front barrel section will need to be manufactured.
Overall, the work externally is costing around £150,000 at this stage.
It is expected that 13065 is expected to be completed by Easter 2019 and be back in public service by Summer 2019.
