2019 steam locomotive driver courses at the Avon Valley Railway

The Avon Valley Railway has released their 2019 locomotive driver courses, allowing you to drive a real steam locomotive or a diesel locomotive if you prefer!

There are 5 different courses for you to choose from. Booking is essential for these courses.

We would recommend booking in advance as these sell out quick!

Below is some of the information on the courses, and a link to book your place.

Course A – Steam Taster
  • Drive and fire a steam locomotive the under guidance of qualified instructors.
  • Light refreshments provided
  • £275
  • Book Course A 2019
Course B – Haul a brake van
  • Drive and fire a steam locomotive, with a brake van behind you.
  • Act as shunter and guard
  • Refreshments (including lunch) provided
  • £375
  • Book Course B 2018
Course C – Haul a passenger train
  • Drive and fire a steam locomotive hauling an empty passenger train.
  • Act as shunter and guard
  • Refreshments (including lunch) provided
  • £325
  • Book Course C 2019
Course D – Drive a diesel
  • Drive and act as secondman on our resident BR Class 31 diesel locomotive hauling empty passenger coaches.
  • Act as shunter and guard
  • Refreshments (including lunch) provided
  • £275
  • Book Course D 2019
Course E – Drive a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU)
  • Drive and act as secondman on our resident Class 107 two-car Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU). 3 hour experience.
  • £140
