The North Tyneside Railway has released a small update to the work being completed on steam locomotive No. 401.
Wednesday 1st August 2018 saw the team work on the firegrate, which was successful.
Before the installation of the firegrate, the railway is awaiting contractors to come to the railway, within the next week, to weld the support studs inside the firebox.
On Saturday, 4th August 2018, the regulator handle for the locomotive was fitted in place.
The locomotives smokebox door has been sent away to Tanfield Spinners, this is to allow repair work to be completed.
The next jobs include fitting all of the mud hole doors and also the wash out plugs.
Crack testing will be carried out following the completion of welding work in the firebox.
After the crack testing is all complete, the railway will be able to begin lagging the boiler.
Excellent to see another project coming along. We hope to see this locomotive in steam in the future!
