The Leeds- has revealed artwork made by pupils of Hellifield Community Primary and Primary Schools.

The ‘Sheep on the Line’ artwork was created by both schools during a Leeds-Morecambe Community Rail Partnership (LMCRP) at one of their rail education events held at Heritage Centre.

The pupils, parents and staff of both schools visited their respective local stations to see the children’s work unveiled.

The pupils revealed the weather-resistant panels which had been made by photographing their original pieces of art ahead of being mounted on platform fencing.  The Hellifield event made the most of glorious sunshine however two hours later the Giggleswick event took place in damper conditions.

Each of the schools has been given a framed certificate to mark their involvement in the project and their original artwork which has been framed by artist Alastair Nicholson who supported them throughout the creative process.

Chairman of the LMCRP, Gerald Townson thanked the pupils and staff for their work in the ‘Sheep on the Line’ project and also paid compliments to Brian Haworth, Partnership Officer, for organising the group activities and also Alastair Nicholson for his continued and generous support of the Community Rail Partnership educational activities.

A trail of sheep now features along the Bentham Line starting at in the east and ending at Carnforth in the west including Hellifield, Giggleswick and Clapham and providing a strong safety message to ‘stay off the track’.

The partnership would love to hear from schools in other parishes throughout the line between Leeds and Heysham Port who may be interested in taking part in educational activities offered by LMCRP. All of the educational activities support and enhance the curriculum in all subjects.
